Description

The Knightsbridge 10AX fan isolator switch provides triple-pole isolation for bathroom extractor fans, kitchen ventilation units and utility room extractors. The black nickel screwless faceplate measures 87.5mm square with a 4.3mm projection from the wall, hiding the mounting screws behind a clip-on cover plate that sits flush with the wall surface.

Designed for bathrooms, en-suites, kitchens and utility rooms where extractor fans require a dedicated isolator switch separate from the lighting circuit, the triple-pole configuration isolates live, neutral and the switched live fan feed simultaneously. This allows a fan to be safely isolated for maintenance or replacement without needing to isolate the main lighting circuit or switch off at the consumer unit. The switch fits a 16mm minimum back box depth and carries an IP20 rating for standard indoor dry locations.

The black nickel finish is a gunmetal-toned dark grey with a subtle metallic sheen, sitting between matt black and polished chrome in reflectivity. It pairs with contemporary bathrooms using dark hardware, industrial-style kitchens with exposed pipework, and modern interiors mixing dark metals with white sanitaryware. The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box, so there are no visible fixings on the wall once installed. The rocker mechanism is clear-marked OFF/ON with a neutral indicator symbol for the isolated position.

Frequently Asked

What is a fan isolator switch used for?

A fan isolator switch allows an extractor fan to be switched off and isolated from the mains supply for maintenance, cleaning or replacement without needing to isolate the entire lighting circuit or switch off at the consumer unit. Building regulations in the UK typically require bathroom extractor fans to have a dedicated isolator located outside the bathroom zone.

What does triple-pole mean?

Triple-pole means the switch isolates three conductors simultaneously when switched to the OFF position: live, neutral, and the switched live feed to the fan. This provides complete isolation of the fan unit from the mains supply.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

The IP20 rating means this switch is suitable for dry indoor locations. In a bathroom it must be installed outside zones 0, 1 and 2 as defined in BS 7671 wiring regulations — typically this means positioning the isolator on the wall outside the bathroom door or in a hallway adjacent to the bathroom, not inside the bathroom itself.

What other finishes are available in this range?

Knightsbridge produces the screwless fan isolator switch in multiple finishes including polished chrome, brushed chrome, polished brass, matt black and white. Use the search function or filters to find other variants in stock at Niori.
