Description

The Knightsbridge 10AX 1-gang intermediate switch features a brushed chrome rounded-edge faceplate with a matching metal rocker. Rated at 10AX on 230V 50Hz, the switch handles lighting loads up to 2,300W and is designed specifically for three-way switching circuits where lights are controlled from three or more locations.

Used on staircases, extended hallways and rooms with multiple entry points, the intermediate switch sits between two two-way switches to complete a multi-point circuit. The 85.75mm square faceplate has a rounded profile that projects 7.5mm from the wall once fitted, with the brushed chrome finish providing a low-sheen metallic surface that resists fingerprints and glare better than polished chrome. The switch requires a minimum 16mm back box depth and includes screw terminals for standard fixed wiring.

Certified to EN 60669-1 and carrying an IP20 rating, the switch is suitable for dry indoor locations. The premium-grade steel construction includes an integrated gasket that sits between the faceplate and the mounting box, reducing dust ingress and improving wall fit. The 25-year warranty covers manufacturing defects and material failure under normal residential and light commercial use.

Frequently Asked

What is an intermediate switch used for?

An intermediate switch enables lighting control from three or more positions. It sits between two two-way switches in the circuit. Common applications include staircases with switches at ground, mid-landing and first floor, or hallways with entry points at both ends plus a third switch mid-corridor.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 16mm back box depth is needed for safe installation. The faceplate projects 7.5mm from the wall once fitted, giving a total projection of approximately 23.5mm from the wall surface to the front of the rocker.

What's the difference between brushed chrome and polished chrome?

Brushed chrome has a directional grain texture that scatters light and reduces fingerprint visibility. Polished chrome is mirror-smooth and more reflective but shows fingerprints more readily. Both are applied to the same premium-grade steel construction.

Is the rounded edge plate compatible with standard UK wiring?

Yes. The switch uses standard screw terminals for fixed wiring and fits UK 85mm square mounting boxes with a minimum 16mm depth. The intermediate function requires four terminals rather than the two found on standard one-way switches.
