Description
The Knightsbridge 10AX 1-gang 2-way switch controls lighting from two separate locations (e.g. top and bottom of stairs, both ends of a hallway) using a black nickel screwless faceplate with a matching metal rocker. The 10AX rating handles loads up to 2,300W on 230V mains, making it suitable for standard domestic and commercial lighting circuits.
Designed for residential hallways, landings, staircases and commercial corridors where lighting needs to be controlled from two points, the switch uses 2-way wiring to link with a second 2-way switch elsewhere in the circuit. The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box, leaving no visible fixings on the wall once installed. The 4.3mm projection from the wall gives a low-profile finish that sits nearly flush with plaster or dry-lined surfaces.
The black nickel finish is a dark metallic grey-black with a semi-reflective sheen, achieved by plating premium-grade steel. This finish pairs well with contemporary, industrial and monochrome interiors, offering a harder-edged alternative to polished chrome or brass. The metal rocker matches the faceplate tone and operates with a positive click action. The switch requires a minimum 16mm back box depth, shallower than many competitors, which suits installations in stud walls or where box depth is limited.

Frequently Asked
What does 2-way switching mean?
A 2-way switch allows a single light to be controlled from two separate locations. You need two 2-way switches wired together to create the circuit. Common applications include controlling landing lights from both upstairs and downstairs, or hallway lights from both ends.
What back box depth is needed?
A minimum 16mm back box depth is required. This is shallower than many competitor switches, making it suitable for stud wall installations or situations where a deeper back box cannot be fitted.
Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?
Yes. The black nickel cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting or wallpapering around the switch and re-clipped without disturbing the wiring.
What other finishes are available in this range?
Knightsbridge produces this switch style in polished chrome, brushed chrome, polished brass, antique brass, matt black and white, among others. Use the search function or filters at Niori to find other finishes in stock.
