Description
The Knightsbridge 10AX 1-gang 1-way switch is a white square edge light switch built from thermoset resin with anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011. The 10AX rating handles lighting circuits up to 2,300W on 230V mains, making it suitable for standard domestic and commercial lighting installations where a single switch controls one lighting circuit.
Designed for wall mounting in residential, commercial and healthcare environments, the switch fits a 16mm minimum back box depth and measures 86mm square with a 9mm projection from the wall. The square edge plate sits flush against flat wall surfaces, and screw cap covers are included to hide fixing screws for a cleaner finish once installed. The IP20 rating means the switch is suitable for dry indoor locations but not bathrooms or outdoor use.
The anti-microbial treatment on the white plate surface reduces bacterial growth between cleaning cycles, which is particularly relevant in clinical settings, care homes, kitchens and bathrooms where hygiene standards are higher. The thermoset resin construction provides impact resistance and colour stability over the 25-year warranty period, and the plate does not yellow under UV exposure the way some cheaper plastics do.

Frequently Asked
What does 1-gang 1-way mean?
1-gang means one switch rocker on the plate. 1-way means the circuit is controlled from this switch position only, not from two different locations. If you need to control a light from two positions (e.g. top and bottom of stairs), you need a 2-way switch, not a 1-way.
What back box depth is required?
A 16mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The plate adds 9mm of projection from the wall once fitted.
What is the anti-microbial treatment?
The plate surface carries an anti-microbial additive tested to ISO 22196:2011, which inhibits bacterial growth on the switch between cleaning cycles. This does not replace cleaning but reduces bacterial colonisation in environments where hygiene is critical.
Can this be used in a bathroom?
The IP20 rating means this switch is not splash-proof and should not be installed within zones 1 or 2 of a bathroom (near sinks, showers, baths). It can be used in a bathroom outside those zones where water splashing is not expected.
