Description
The Knightsbridge 10A fan isolator key switch module is a triple pole isolator designed for the Curved Edge Grid system, providing secure switching control for bathroom and kitchen ventilation fans. The key switch mechanism prevents unauthorised operation, making it suitable for commercial, hospitality and multi-occupancy residential installations where fan control needs to be restricted to staff or maintenance personnel.
Designed as a grid module rather than a standalone switch, this isolator clips into a Knightsbridge Curved Edge grid plate (sold separately), allowing it to be combined with other grid modules such as sockets, data ports or dimmer switches in a single faceplate assembly. The 10A rating handles standard domestic and light commercial ventilation fans, while the triple pole switching isolates live, neutral and earth simultaneously, providing complete electrical isolation when the fan is switched off for maintenance.
The module measures 25mm wide by 55mm high, occupying one grid space in the curved grid system. The matt white thermoset resin construction includes anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011, reducing bacterial growth on the switch surface in bathrooms, kitchens and clinical environments. The 1500A short circuit current rating and IP20 ingress protection meet UK building regulations for standard indoor installations requiring a minimum 35mm back box depth.

Frequently Asked
What grid system is this compatible with?
This module is designed exclusively for the Knightsbridge Curved Edge Grid system. It will not fit standard square-edge grid plates or standalone switch plates. You need to purchase a separate curved grid faceplate to mount this module.
Why does a fan isolator need a key switch?
The key switch prevents unauthorised operation, which is required in commercial kitchens, hotel bathrooms, care homes and other settings where ventilation fans must remain on for air quality or fire safety compliance. Removing the key locks the switch in its current position.
What is triple pole switching?
Triple pole switching isolates live, neutral and earth simultaneously when the switch is turned off, providing complete electrical isolation. This allows safe maintenance work on the fan without needing to isolate the circuit at the consumer unit.
Can this be used in a bathroom?
Yes, provided it is installed outside bathroom zones 0, 1 and 2 as defined in BS 7671 wiring regulations. The IP20 rating is suitable for indoor dry locations but not for direct water exposure. Typical installation is outside the bathroom door or in an adjacent corridor.
