Description
The Knightsbridge 10A fan isolator key switch module is a triple-pole isolator in matt white ABS with a key-operated rocker switch marked 'FAN isolator', 'ON' and 'OFF O'. The module clips into Knightsbridge grid mounting frames from the front without removing the frame from the wall, allowing fan circuits to be isolated during maintenance or replaced within an existing grid installation.
Designed for bathroom extractor fans, kitchen ventilation and utility room extraction where safe isolation of fan circuits is required, the module fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth. The key-operated mechanism prevents accidental or unauthorised switching, making it suitable for commercial premises, rental properties and households with young children where fan circuits need to remain on or off without casual interference.
The triple-pole switching isolates live, neutral and earth, providing full circuit isolation rather than just breaking the live feed. The module is rated at 10A on 230V 50Hz mains and carries an IP20 rating for dry indoor use. The matt white finish provides a clean, non-reflective surface that pairs with standard white grid plates and contemporary switch ranges.

Frequently Asked
What grid frame does this module fit?
The module is designed to clip into Knightsbridge grid mounting frames, which are sold separately. These frames are available in various gang configurations and finishes to match the matt white module. The module clips in from the front after the frame is installed.
Why is a key switch used for fan isolation?
The key-operated mechanism prevents accidental or unauthorised switching of the fan circuit. This is particularly useful in commercial premises, rental properties or homes with children, where the fan needs to remain on continuously or where access to the isolator should be restricted to authorised personnel.
What does triple-pole switching mean?
Triple-pole switching isolates all three conductors: live, neutral and earth. This provides full circuit isolation rather than just breaking the live feed, offering a higher level of safety during fan maintenance or replacement compared to single-pole or double-pole switching.
Can this be used in bathrooms?
The IP20 rating means the module is suitable for dry indoor locations. In bathrooms, the module should be positioned outside splash zones and at least 600mm from the edge of a bath or shower enclosure, in line with UK wiring regulations for electrical accessories in wet areas.
