Description

The Knightsbridge 10A fan isolator key switch module is a triple-pole isolator designed for bathroom and kitchen extractor fan circuits where safe disconnection of the fan is required during maintenance. The module clips into Knightsbridge grid mounting frames (sold separately) and uses a removable key to prevent unauthorised switching of the fan circuit once isolated.

Grid modules suit installations where multiple switch functions need to be grouped together in a single plate — combining lighting controls, fan isolators and socket outlets within the same frame. The triple-pole design isolates live, neutral and earth lines when the switch is in the OFF position, providing full circuit disconnection rather than just breaking the live feed. The module carries a 10A rating at 230V, suitable for standard domestic extractor fans.

The matt black ABS and steel construction gives the module a low-sheen finish that pairs with contemporary, industrial and monochrome interiors. The module measures 25mm wide (single grid width) and requires a minimum 25mm back box depth behind the mounting frame. The 1500A conditional short-circuit current rating provides protection against electrical faults during operation. The removable key prevents accidental reconnection of the fan circuit while maintenance work is being carried out.

Frequently Asked

What is a fan isolator and why is it required?

A fan isolator provides a means of safely disconnecting an extractor fan from the mains supply during maintenance or replacement. Building regulations often require an accessible isolator for bathroom and kitchen fans so that the fan can be worked on without turning off power at the consumer unit.

What does triple-pole mean?

Triple-pole switching isolates all three conductors in the circuit: live, neutral and earth. This provides full disconnection of the fan from the electrical supply, whereas single-pole switching only breaks the live connection.

Can the module be used on its own?

No. The module requires a separate Knightsbridge grid mounting frame, which is sold separately. The module clips into the frame from the front, and the frame is then fixed to a 25mm minimum back box.

What is the removable key for?

The key prevents unauthorised operation of the isolator. Once the fan circuit is switched to the OFF position for maintenance, the key can be removed and kept by the person carrying out the work, preventing accidental reconnection of the circuit while they are working on the fan.
