Description

The Knightsbridge 10A 3-pole fan isolator switch isolates extractor fans from lighting circuits without cutting power to the entire circuit. The triple-pole design switches all three conductors — live, neutral and switched live — making it safer for maintenance work on extractor fans in bathrooms, en-suites, utility rooms and kitchens. The switch is rated at 10A and carries a 1500mA conditional short-circuit current rating.

Designed for bathrooms and utility rooms where extractor fans run on shared lighting circuits, the isolator allows the fan to be switched off independently for cleaning, filter changes or motor replacement without isolating the lighting. The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame, leaving no visible fixings once installed. The switch requires a minimum 16mm back box depth and projects 8.4mm from the wall when fitted.

The antique brass finish is applied to 201 stainless steel, giving a warm brushed metallic surface with deliberate tonal variation that mimics aged brass. The rocker itself is also finished in antique brass to match the faceplate. The built-in gasket around the plate edge provides a seal against the wall, and the IP20 rating confirms suitability for dry zones in bathrooms (outside the immediate shower or bath enclosure).

Frequently Asked

Why use a fan isolator instead of a standard switch?

A fan isolator switches all three conductors including neutral, making the fan completely isolated from the circuit during maintenance. A standard light switch only breaks the live conductor, leaving the fan electrically connected even when off. This triple-pole isolation meets Building Regulations Part P requirements for safe fan maintenance.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

Yes, with the IP20 rating it is suitable for dry zones in bathrooms outside the immediate shower or bath enclosure. It should not be installed within zones 0, 1 or 2 as defined by IET Wiring Regulations BS 7671. Most bathroom extractor fan isolators are positioned outside the bathroom door or on a ceiling above the shower zone boundary.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 16mm back box depth is needed. The screwless cover plate adds 8.4mm of projection from the wall once fitted, with the rocker sitting 4.3mm proud of the plate surface.

Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?

Yes. The cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting around the switch and re-clipped without re-wiring.
