Description

The Knightsbridge VFR200I is a 2-way intelligent dimmer module rated at 10-200W for incandescent and halogen loads, or 5-150W for dimmable LED lamps. The module switches between leading-edge and trailing-edge dimming modes via a rotary control knob accessible from the front plate, allowing it to be adjusted for compatibility with different lamp types without rewiring or removing the module from the back box.

Designed as a replacement module for existing dimmer switches or new installations, the VFR200I fits behind a standard modular light switch plate in a 35mm minimum back box. The 2-way configuration supports control from two separate switch positions — common in staircases, landings and through-rooms where lights are controlled from either end. The module is preset to trailing-edge mode on installation, which suits most modern dimmable LED lamps, and can be switched to leading-edge mode for incandescent, halogen or older dimming loads.

The rotary control on the front of the module allows mode switching, trim adjustment and reset without removing the faceplate or accessing internal DIP switches. This means the dimmer can be reconfigured when changing lamp types or fittings without needing an electrician to return. The module includes overload protection, overheat protection and an inrush current limiter to reduce stress on lamp filaments and LED drivers during switch-on, extending the working life of bulbs and fittings.

The VFR200I is IP20 rated and housed in a polycarbonate casing measuring 65mm high, 25mm wide and 40mm deep. It projects 18mm from the back box once fitted, with 23mm recessed into the box. The module is designed for use with dimmable lamps only and should not be used in mixed-load environments where lamps of different wattages or brands share the same circuit, as this can cause flickering or compatibility issues.

What's the difference between leading-edge and trailing-edge dimming?

Leading-edge dimming cuts power at the start of each AC waveform and suits incandescent and halogen lamps. Trailing-edge dimming cuts power at the end of the waveform and suits most dimmable LED and CFL lamps. The VFR200I supports both modes and can be switched via the front rotary control to match the lamp type in use.

Can this dimmer control LED bulbs?

Yes, the module supports dimmable LED lamps rated 5-150W total load. The dimmer is preset to trailing-edge mode, which suits most modern dimmable LED drivers. Not all LED lamps are dimmable — check the bulb packaging before use.

What back box depth is required?

A 35mm minimum back box depth is needed. The module recesses 23mm into the box and projects 18mm forward once fitted, so the total depth required behind the faceplate is approximately 41mm including wiring space.

How is the dimming mode changed?

The mode is changed via the rotary control knob on the front of the module, accessible once the faceplate is removed. Turn the knob to the mode-select position and follow the manual instructions to toggle between leading-edge and trailing-edge operation. The setting is retained after power-off.
