Description
The Knightsbridge 1-gang grid faceplate is an 89mm x 89mm antique brass cover plate designed for modular grid systems, not standard switches or sockets. This faceplate accepts one Knightsbridge grid module (sold separately), allowing custom configurations of switches, dimmers, data ports or media outlets behind a single coordinated cover.
Grid systems work differently from standard faceplates. Instead of a fixed socket or switch assembly, you first fit a metal grid frame to the back box, then clip individual grid modules into that frame, then snap this faceplate over the entire assembly. The result is a clean single-plate installation that can combine different functions — a light switch, dimmer and USB charger, for example — without visible joins between modules.
The antique brass finish on this plate is a warm, slightly aged tone that sits between polished brass and darker bronze. The square-edge profile gives a defined geometric outline rather than the rounded contours of traditional plate edges. Premium-grade steel construction provides durability and a flat mounting surface, while the 10.5mm projection from the wall once fitted keeps the profile low. The IP20 rating suits dry indoor locations.

Frequently Asked
What is a grid faceplate used for?
Grid faceplates cover modular grid systems where individual function modules (switches, dimmers, data ports) clip into a separate metal grid frame. This faceplate is NOT compatible with standard UK switches or sockets — it requires Knightsbridge grid modules and a grid frame, sold separately.
How many modules does this faceplate accommodate?
This 1-gang plate accommodates one standard-width Knightsbridge grid module. For multiple modules in a single faceplate, Knightsbridge offers 2-gang, 3-gang and larger grid faceplates in the same antique brass finish.
What back box depth is required?
Grid systems typically require a 35mm minimum back box depth to accommodate the grid frame, modules and wiring. Check the specific module datasheets for any deeper requirements when combining multiple high-depth modules.
Can this be mixed with standard Knightsbridge faceplates?
Yes. The antique brass finish and square-edge profile match Knightsbridge's standard Square Edge Antique Brass range of switches and sockets, allowing coordinated installations across standard and grid systems in the same room.
