Description

The Knightsbridge 1-gang blanking plate covers unused or redundant electrical boxes behind an 89mm square antique brass faceplate with a square edge profile. The plate sits flush against the wall surface with a built-in gasket around the perimeter to seal against dust ingress, rated to IP20 for indoor dry-location use.

Designed for residential and light commercial installation, the blanking plate fits standard single-gang back boxes with a minimum 16mm depth and uses two fixing screws to attach to the lugs. The earth terminal on the rear of the plate allows earthing continuity to be maintained through unused boxes, meeting IEC 60670-1 standards for electrical accessory compliance.

The antique brass finish provides a warm, aged metallic appearance with tonal variation across the surface that gives the impression of naturally oxidised brass. The square edge profile means the faceplate sits directly against the wall without a bevelled or rounded transition, creating a defined border around the plate perimeter. The finish pairs well with traditional brass hardware, period ironmongery and warm-toned interiors where a worn or heritage aesthetic is preferred over high-polish chrome or contemporary matt finishes.

Frequently Asked

Why would I need a blanking plate?

Blanking plates cover electrical back boxes that are no longer in use, typically after removing an old socket, switch or connection point during renovation. They maintain a finished appearance on the wall and prevent dust, debris or fingers entering the back box cavity.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 16mm back box depth is needed for safe installation. The plate projects 10.5mm from the wall surface once fitted to a standard single-gang box.

Does the plate need to be earthed?

The plate includes an earth terminal on the rear. If the back box is metal and part of an earthed installation, connecting the earth terminal maintains continuity through the unused box, meeting current wiring regulations for safety.

What other finishes are available in this range?

Knightsbridge produces this square edge blanking plate in multiple finishes including polished brass, brushed chrome, polished chrome, matt black and white. Use the site search or category filters to find other variants in stock at Niori.
