Description
The Knightsbridge 1-gang touchless switch activates lighting with a hand wave within 3cm of the sensor, removing the need to physically touch the faceplate. A gesture sensor behind the matt white screwless cover detects hand movement and toggles the connected circuit on or off, making it suitable for environments where reduced physical contact is preferred.
Designed for kitchens, bathrooms, medical facilities and care environments where hands may be wet, gloved or occupied, the switch requires a neutral wire connection to power the sensor circuit. The screwless faceplate clips onto a separate sub-frame fixed to a standard 25mm minimum back box, leaving no visible fixings on the wall surface. The built-in gasket behind the plate seals against dust and moisture ingress to IP20 rating.
The matt white finish is powder-coated onto SPCC steel, giving a soft non-reflective surface that resists fingerprints and shows fewer marks than gloss finishes. At 87.5mm square, the switch matches standard UK single-gang dimensions and can replace traditional rocker or toggle switches without altering the back box. The 4.3mm projection from the wall keeps the profile low and reduces the chance of accidental activation by passing movement.

Frequently Asked
Does this switch require a neutral wire?
Yes. The gesture sensor circuit needs a permanent neutral connection to function. Standard UK lighting circuits do not always provide a neutral at the switch position, so check your wiring before ordering. If no neutral is available at the switch location, the circuit will need to be re-wired by a qualified electrician.
How close does my hand need to be to activate the switch?
The sensor detects hand movement within 3cm of the faceplate surface. This short range reduces the chance of accidental activation by passing movement, but requires a deliberate hand wave directly in front of the switch.
Can it be used in bathrooms?
The IP20 rating means the switch is suitable for dry indoor locations only. For bathroom zones 1 and 2, a higher IP-rated switch is required by UK wiring regulations. This switch can be used outside the designated bathroom zones where splashing is not expected.
What back box depth is needed?
A 25mm minimum back box depth is required. The switch adds 4.3mm projection from the wall once the screwless cover plate is clipped on.
