Description

The Knightsbridge 1-gang touchless switch uses a gesture sensor to activate the circuit without physical contact, detecting hand movement up to 3cm from the faceplate. A single wave across the sensor toggles the circuit on or off, eliminating the need to touch the switch surface and reducing wear on the mechanism.

Designed for domestic and commercial environments where hygiene matters — kitchens, bathrooms, medical consulting rooms, hospitality washrooms — the touchless control reduces surface contamination and simplifies operation when hands are occupied or wet. The switch requires a neutral wire connection in addition to the standard live and switched-live wires, so it will not work in installations that only provide live and switched-live at the switch position.

The matt black screwless faceplate is constructed from SPCC steel with a 4.3mm projection from the wall when fitted to a 25mm minimum back box. The screwless cover clips onto a separate metal sub-frame, leaving no visible fixings on the wall once installed. A built-in gasket behind the faceplate provides dust protection to IP20 standard, and the 87.5mm square format matches standard UK switch and socket dimensions.

Frequently Asked

Does this switch require a neutral wire?

Yes. The touchless sensor requires a neutral wire connection in addition to the standard live and switched-live wires. Older UK installations may only provide live and switched-live at the switch position, in which case a neutral wire will need to be run from the lighting circuit or the switch will not function.

What is the sensor detection range?

The gesture sensor detects hand movement up to 3cm from the faceplate surface. A single wave across the sensor toggles the circuit on or off.

Can this be used in bathrooms?

The IP20 rating means the switch is suitable for dry indoor locations only. It is not rated for zones 0, 1 or 2 in bathrooms where direct water spray or steam contact is expected. Install it outside the wet zones or choose a switch with a higher IP rating.

What back box depth is needed?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is required. The switch has a recessed depth of 20.5mm and projects 4.3mm from the wall when fitted.
