Description

The Knightsbridge 1-gang 1-way touchless switch uses a gesture sensor to control a single lighting circuit without physical contact. A hand waved within 3cm of the faceplate triggers the ON/OFF switching, eliminating the need to touch the surface. The switch is finished in black nickel with a screwless faceplate that clips onto a separate metal sub-frame.

Designed for residential bathrooms, hotel rooms, care homes and commercial washrooms where reducing surface contact supports hygiene protocols, the touchless switch requires a neutral wire connection in addition to the standard live and switched live terminals. The sensor sits behind the 201 stainless steel faceplate and operates on 230V 50Hz mains. The screwless cover plate hides all fixings once installed, giving a cleaner finish than screw-fixed alternatives.

The black nickel finish provides a dark metallic tone that sits between graphite and polished chrome, pairing well with contemporary bathrooms, industrial-styled kitchens and monochrome interiors. The switch sits 4.3mm proud of the wall once fitted to a 25mm minimum back box, with a built-in gasket providing IP20 protection against solid objects larger than 12.5mm. The 87.5mm square faceplate matches standard UK single-gang dimensions.

Does this switch require a neutral wire?

Yes. The gesture sensor requires a neutral connection in addition to the standard live and switched live terminals. If your existing back box has only two wires (live and switched live), a neutral wire will need to be run to the switch location before this touchless model can be installed.

How close does your hand need to be to trigger the sensor?

The sensor detects motion within 3cm of the faceplate surface. This range prevents accidental triggering from movement across the room while still allowing activation without physical contact.

Can it be used in bathrooms?

The switch carries an IP20 rating, which provides protection against solid objects but not moisture ingress. It can be installed in bathrooms outside of the designated splash zones (typically Zones 0, 1 and 2 around baths and showers). Consult BS 7671 Wiring Regulations or a qualified electrician for zone-specific installation guidance.

Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?

Yes. The black nickel cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box. The cover can be removed for painting around the switch and re-clipped without re-wiring.
