Description
The Knightsbridge 1-gang touchless switch uses a proximity sensor to detect hand movement within 3cm of the faceplate, switching connected lighting on or off without physical contact. The switch is housed behind an anthracite screwless faceplate measuring 87.5mm square with a 4.3mm projection from the wall once fitted.
Designed for healthcare settings, commercial kitchens, care homes, bathrooms and any environment where reducing surface contact improves hygiene, the touchless operation eliminates the need to touch the switch plate with dirty hands or gloves. The switch requires a neutral wire at the back box to power the proximity sensor circuit, making it incompatible with older UK wiring that carries only live, switched live and earth.
The anthracite finish is a mid-tone grey-black powder coat on SPCC steel that pairs with both contemporary interiors and industrial-style kitchens. The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame, concealing all fixings once installed. The built-in gasket between the faceplate and wall surface provides IP20 ingress protection and sits flush on flat, finished walls.
The switch handles 230V 50Hz mains loads and fits a standard UK 25mm minimum back box depth. The proximity sensor activates lighting instantly when a hand approaches and deactivates when approached again, with no delay or dwell time. The sensor works reliably with LED, halogen and incandescent loads.

Frequently Asked
Does this switch require a neutral wire?
Yes. The proximity sensor circuit requires a permanent neutral connection at the back box to power the sensor. The switch will not function in older UK wiring installations that carry only live, switched live and earth to the switch location.
How close does my hand need to be?
The sensor detects hand movement within 3cm of the faceplate surface. Approaching the switch activates the connected lighting, and approaching again deactivates it. There is no delay or timer function.
Is it compatible with LED bulbs?
Yes. The switch handles LED, halogen and incandescent loads on 230V 50Hz mains. It operates as a standard on/off switch with no dimming capability.
What back box depth is needed?
A 25mm minimum back box depth is required. The switch assembly measures 24.8mm deep, and the screwless cover plate adds a 4.3mm projection from the wall once installed.
