Description

The Knightsbridge GDM014BC is a 1-gang 1-way trailing edge dimmer module rated for 10-200W incandescent loads or 10-100W LED loads (maximum 10-12 fittings), finished in brushed chrome. The module is designed to fit into modular grid systems rather than as a standalone switch — it clips into a compatible Knightsbridge grid plate (sold separately) alongside other modules to build custom multi-function switch assemblies.

Trailing edge dimming suits LED lamps and transformers that don't tolerate the voltage spike of leading-edge dimmers, reducing flicker and hum in low-wattage LED circuits. The dimmer operates with a single rocker: press to switch on or off, press and hold to adjust brightness up or down. The brushed chrome faceplate matches the wider Knightsbridge brushed chrome range, allowing coordinated installations across sockets, switches and dimmer modules within the same room or building.

The module measures 56.3mm high by 25mm wide, fitting a single module aperture in a standard Knightsbridge grid plate. Installation requires a 35mm minimum back box depth behind the grid plate. The ABS and steel construction gives the module a solid feel without adding significant weight to the grid assembly, and the IP20 rating confirms suitability for dry indoor locations only.

What's the difference between trailing edge and leading edge dimming?

Trailing edge dimmers cut the voltage at the end of each AC cycle rather than at the start, which suits LED drivers and electronic transformers better. Leading edge dimmers work well with old-style incandescent and halogen bulbs but can cause flicker or buzzing in LED circuits. If you're dimming LEDs, trailing edge is the safer choice.

Does this module work as a standalone dimmer switch?

No. This is a grid module designed to clip into a Knightsbridge modular grid plate. You need to purchase a compatible grid plate (available in 1, 2, 3 or 4 module widths) and a grid frame to create a complete switch assembly. The module cannot be fitted directly to a back box on its own.

How many LED lamps can it control?

The module handles up to 100W of LED load, which typically supports 10-12 individual LED lamps depending on their wattage. For example, 10 x 10W LEDs would sit at the upper limit. Exceeding the rated load can cause the dimmer to overheat or fail prematurely.
