Description

The Knightsbridge 1-2 gang mounting frame is a steel sub-frame designed to support 1-gang and 2-gang Curved Edge grid faceplates. The frame measures 68mm square with a 27mm projection from the wall when fitted, and comes with pre-fitted mounting screws that fix directly into a standard UK back box.

This frame is part of the Knightsbridge Curved Edge Grid System, which uses modular grid inserts (switches, sockets, dimmers, data ports) that clip into separate metal sub-frames rather than being wired directly into a faceplate. The mounting frame fixes to the back box first, then the chosen grid modules clip into place, and finally the decorative faceplate covers the entire assembly. This modular approach allows configurations to be changed without replacing the entire faceplate.

The white painted steel construction provides an earth terminal for safety compliance and carries an IP20 rating for dry indoor use. The frame is compatible only with Knightsbridge Curved Edge grid faceplates and grid modules — it does not work with standard screw-fixed switches or sockets. Knightsbridge backs the frame with a 25-year warranty.

What's the difference between a mounting frame and a faceplate?

The mounting frame is the metal sub-frame that fixes to the back box and holds the grid modules (switches, sockets, dimmers). The faceplate is the decorative cover that clips over the entire assembly once the modules are in place. Both are required for a complete installation in the Curved Edge Grid System.

Is this compatible with standard switches and sockets?

No. This frame only works with Knightsbridge Curved Edge grid modules and grid faceplates. It is not compatible with standard screw-fixed switches or sockets from other ranges.

What back box depth is needed?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is recommended for single-gang installations. For 2-gang configurations or installations with multiple grid modules, a 35mm or 47mm back box may be required depending on the depth of the modules being fitted.

Can the frame be reused if I change the grid modules?

Yes. The frame stays fixed to the back box. Grid modules clip in and out of the frame, allowing configurations to be changed without removing the frame or re-wiring from the back box.
