Zowie Recycled Glass Ceiling Light - Antique Brass

The Zowie ceiling light is a wide shallow dish of clear ribbed glass held under a round brass ceiling plate on a short rigid stem. The ribs run out from the centre to the rim in close narrow lines, so the glass reads as a fluted disc rather than a smooth one, and the rim turns down a little at the edge. The lampholder sits above the glass in a brass collar. It is 40cm across and hangs 20.7cm below the ceiling in total.

There is no chain and no flex, so the drop is fixed at 20.7cm and the fitting clears a low ceiling that a pendant would crowd. The dish is wide and shallow, which sends light down and outward across a broad circle rather than into a tight pool, and the ribs break it up on the way so the glass itself carries light instead of showing the bulb as a hard point. Over a dining table or a kitchen island it sits close enough to the ceiling to stay out of the sightline across the room. It takes one E27 bulb up to 60W, it is suitable for use with a dimmer switch, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The shade is recycled glass, pressed with its ribs, so the thickness and the small marks in it vary from one to the next. The stem, plate and collar are iron finished in antique brass. The Zowie range also holds the same ribbed dish as a pendant on a long cord. Bulbs are not included.

How far below the ceiling does it sit?

20.7cm in total. The stem is rigid, so the drop is fixed and there is nothing to adjust.

How is it different from the Zowie pendant?

The same ribbed glass dish, 40cm across on both. This one is on a short rigid stem close to the ceiling; the pendant hangs on a 2m cord.

Can it go on a dimmer?

Yes. It is suitable for use with a dimmer switch.

How do I clean it?

Switch it off and let the bulb cool, then wipe the glass with a soft dry cloth in a circular motion, following the ribs. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners off it.
