Description

We stock the Yin as a surface-mounted LED ceiling spotlight for directional accent light. A spherical aluminium head sits on a cylindrical white base and rotates and tilts, so you can aim the beam once it is up. The integrated 15W LED gives 1359 lumens of warm white light at 3000K through a narrow 24 degree beam, which makes it an accent fitting rather than general room lighting.

We would reach for the Yin in living rooms, hallways, kitchens and retail spaces where you want to pick out a particular spot without recessing anything into the ceiling. It fixes to a standard ceiling electrical box and the base houses the driver and connector block inside, so the fitting sits on the surface rather than inside the ceiling. Angle the head to wash a piece of artwork, a shelf or an architectural detail, and the white finish either blends into a white ceiling or reads cleanly against a darker one.

The aluminium body helps the LED shed heat and keeps colour rendering high at 90 CRI, so artwork, fabrics and food look natural under it. The narrow 24 degree beam throws a focused pool of light that widens the further the fitting sits from its target. It runs on a 220-240V 50Hz supply, is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms, and the LED is not dimmable, so it stays at full output.

Frequently Asked

How is it fitted?

It is surface-mounted and fixes to a standard ceiling electrical box. The white cylindrical base houses the driver and connector block, so nothing recesses into the ceiling. We would have it wired in by a qualified electrician.

Can I dim it?

No. The integrated 15W LED is not dimmable, so it runs at full brightness and will not work on a dimmer switch.

Where does it work best?

It is an accent fitting rather than ambient lighting. The narrow 24 degree beam and 90 CRI make it well suited to lighting artwork, shelves or a feature in a living room, hallway, kitchen or retail space.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20, which is for dry indoor rooms only, so we would not fit it in a bathroom or anywhere exposed to moisture.
