Yala Hammered Wine Glasses - Sage Green - Set of 4

Four wine glasses in sage green, each 12cm tall and 8cm across, with a rounded bowl that draws in at the rim, a short thick stem and a plain disc foot. The whole bowl is hammered, so the surface is dimpled unevenly and breaks the light into points rather than throwing an even reflection. The green is pale and runs right through the wall of the glass instead of sitting on top of it.

Each glass holds 250ml and stands 12cm, low enough to go on a dresser shelf or into a wall cupboard that a full height wine glass will not. The stem is short and sturdy rather than drawn fine, and the foot is a flat disc with no knop or flare, so the glasses sit squat on the table. The Yala hammered wine glass is also made in clear glass and in dusty terracotta, and the three stand together on one table.

The glass is recycled. Each one is blown by hand and then hammered with traditional tools, which is what leaves the irregular dimpling over the bowl. The colour is never sprayed on but carried in the glass itself, which is what keeps it food safe and holds an even depth of green from rim to foot. The hammering falls differently on every glass, so no two in a set are alike.

Is the glass recycled?

Yes. The waste glass is gathered and rinsed clear of impurities, then crushed and melted down before each glass is blown by hand.

Is the colour painted on?

No. It is carried in the glass rather than sprayed onto the surface, which is what makes it food safe and keeps the green even through the wall of the bowl.

Can they go in the dishwasher?

Yes. Washing them after every use stops staining. Use a mild detergent, do not leave them to soak, and handle them with care.
