Description

Four champagne flutes in sage green glass, each 19cm tall and holding 200ml. The bowl is long and narrow and stands on a short, thick stem over a heavy disc foot, so the weight of the glass sits low. The surface is hammered into shallow dimples that run up the bowl and take the light unevenly, and the green is pale enough to read almost clear where the glass thins.

At 200ml the bowl takes a full glass with room left above it. The stem is shorter and sturdier than a usual flute, so less of the glass stands above the table. Sage green is one of several colours the Yala range is made in, so a table can be laid in one colour or mixed across them.

The glass is recycled. It is crushed and melted down, then blown by hand and hammered with traditional tools, so the dimpling falls differently on every glass. The colour is not sprayed on: it is carried in the glass itself, which is what keeps it safe for food and drink. Four glasses come in a set, and Yala runs to tumblers, highballs, wine glasses, gin glasses, a jug, a carafe and champagne coupes.
