Description

A set of four champagne coupes in dusty terracotta glass, each 13.5cm tall and 10cm across. The bowl is shallow and wide rather than tall and narrow, and a hammered texture runs over it from just below the rim down to the stem, leaving a smooth band at the lip. The stem is slim and tapers into a stepped, ridged foot. The colour deepens where the glass is thickest, at the foot and at the base of the bowl, and lightens towards the rim. Each holds 175ml.

At 13.5cm tall the coupes sit low enough on a laid table to see across, and the 175ml bowl takes a short pour rather than a full one. The wide shape suits a cocktail as much as champagne. Four covers a table of four. They are foodsafe. With the light behind them the hammering reads as small bright points across the bowl rather than as an even surface.

The glass is recycled. Waste glass is collected and washed to remove impurities, then crushed and melted down before it is hand blown, and the hammered surface is worked in afterwards with traditional tools. Small bubbles and slight differences in the thickness of the wall come with that and show in every piece. The coupe is made in sage green and in clear as well as this dusty terracotta, and Yala runs on to tumblers, highballs, wine glasses, gin glasses, a jug and a carafe.

Frequently Asked

How many glasses come in the set?

Four.

How much does each one hold?

175ml. The bowl is 10cm across and the glass stands 13.5cm tall.

Are they foodsafe?

Yes.

Will the four match?

Not exactly. Each one is hand blown from recycled glass, so the bubbles, the depth of the colour and the pattern of the hammering differ from glass to glass.

How should I wash them?

After every use, to stop staining, in a mild detergent. Do not leave them to soak, and handle them with care.
