Description

Five stoneware trees make up this Christmas set, each a different take on a small woodland fir. Three of them are candle holders, with a socket at the top that takes a slim taper candle. The other two, a tall flat tree with upswept branches and a little pointed cone, stand alongside as ornaments. All five wear a glossy purple glaze with a fine speckle that gathers darker along the ridges and tiers. The maker gives the size as 9cm long, 5.5cm wide and 19cm tall.

They are made for a mantelpiece or a sideboard through December, grouped together or spread out among greenery and other decorations. Lined up from tallest to smallest they read as a little forest. Split up, the candle holders can run along a windowsill or down the middle of a festive table while the two trees keep a shelf company. Purple makes a welcome change from the usual Christmas colours and sits comfortably beside brass, pine sprigs and natural wood.
