Description

The Wellington Grand is a large outdoor post light with a solid brass body in a satin nickel finish, a soft silvery grey. A domed shade of clear ribbed glass sits inside a cage of hoops and uprights in the same finish, above a waisted pedestal that flares out to a round foot. It stands 30cm tall and 16cm across, a generous size for a post or pillar. Its rating is IP54, which means it is protected against dust and against water splashing from any direction, so it is made to live outdoors in British weather.

This post light belongs on a gatepost, a pier at the end of a drive, or a pillar beside a front path, where it marks the way in after dark. The maker describes it as sturdy and able to take a larger bulb, to help light the area around the post or pillar beneath it. The maker also recommends it for commercial settings, since a screwdriver is needed to change the lamp. The look is maritime, with caged glass that recalls a ship's deck light. The maker says the maritime influence shows in the range's materials, designs and names, and describes these post lights as made for outdoor places wanting an industrial or nautical effect.

Beneath the satin nickel finish the body is solid brass, and it weighs 2.5KG. The cage is held to the base ring with screws, and the maker says the clear prismatic glass helps spread the light evenly. The cable enters through the base, which keeps it out of sight. It takes one E27 Edison screw lamp of up to 18W, and the lamp is not included. As a mains light, it should be installed by a qualified electrician. Our practical tip: keep a screwdriver with your spare bulb, as you will need one to reach the lamp.
