Description
The Wellington Grand is a large outdoor post light in solid brass with a raw brass finish, made to stand on top of a post or pillar. A brass cage wraps a dome of clear ribbed glass, and the head sits on a flared pedestal with a broad round foot. It is 30cm tall and 16cm across, and it weighs 2.5KG. It is rated IP54, which means it is protected against dust and against water splashing from any direction: it lives happily outdoors through British rain on a gatepost, though it is not one for the ground or anywhere water pools.
Its natural home is a brick gate pier, a pillar at the end of a drive or a post beside a path, where it marks the way in after dark. A matching pair on either side of a gate frames an entrance neatly. The maker says these post lights are designed for outdoor places that call for an industrial or nautical effect, and that the maritime influence shows in the range's materials, designs and names. That makes it a fine choice for a red brick villa, a house by the sea, a boathouse or a quayside.
The maker says this sturdy lantern can house a larger bulb to light the area around the post or pillar, and that the prismatic glass spreads the light evenly. It takes one E27 (ES) lamp up to 18W, which is not included. The cable enters through the base, so the connection sits out of sight, and like any mains light it is installed by a qualified electrician. Solid brass darkens and mellows outdoors, so the bright gold will soften to a deeper, browner tone over the seasons. The maker says a screwdriver is needed to change the bulb, and recommends the lantern for commercial settings for that reason, so at home keep a screwdriver with the spare lamps.

Frequently Asked
Can the Wellington Grand go on a brick gate pier?
Yes. It is made to stand on top of a post or pillar, and a brick gate pier at the entrance to a drive or garden is exactly the kind of place it suits.
What does IP54 mean for this post light?
IP54 means it is protected against dust and against water splashing from any direction, so it is fine outdoors in the rain. It is not designed to sit in the ground or in standing water.
Which bulb does it take, and is one included?
It takes one E27 (ES) lamp up to 18W, and a lamp is not included, so buy one separately. The maker says a screwdriver is needed to change it.
How big is the Wellington Grand?
It is 30cm tall and 16cm across, and it weighs 2.5KG, a good solid size for the top of a gate pier or pillar.
Will the raw brass finish change colour outdoors?
Yes. Solid brass darkens and mellows outdoors, so the bright gold softens to a deeper, browner tone over the seasons as it weathers.
How does the cable reach the lantern?
The cable enters through the base, so it comes up from beneath the lantern and the connection sits out of sight rather than running across the face of the pillar.
