Description

Small, soft and entirely unglamorous, this is the sort of part that quietly solves a problem you only notice when it is gone. It is a flat ring of white rubber, just 2mm thick, with a wide central hole and a smooth outer edge. Squeeze it between finger and thumb and it gives, which is the whole point: rubber takes up the tiny irregularities that stop two hard components from sitting square and quiet against one another. Packs contain five, so there is always a spare in the tin for the next job.

Anyone who puts together their own pendants and lampholder assemblies will know the noise a loose ring makes, or the faint scuff a metal shoulder leaves on a painted surface. A washer of this kind cushions the joint and spreads pressure evenly, so nothing bites and nothing chatters.
