Description

A set of four napkin rings turned from mango wood, 5.7cm across and 3.8cm deep, each one carved with close vertical grooves all the way round the outside. The grooving is the mark the Vivan range carries through its furniture, cut here at a much smaller scale, and it is done by hand, so the lines vary a little in depth and spacing from ring to ring. The wood is left its own pale tone.

5.7cm across takes a rolled napkin without forcing it, or a folded one. Four in a set covers a table for four, and two sets cover eight. At 3.8cm deep they stand up rather than lying flat, so they can be left out on the table between meals.

The rings are mango wood, hand carved one at a time. The grain runs differently through each one, so the four in a set are not identical to each other. Mango is grown first for its fruit and cut for timber only when the trees stop bearing. The Vivan range carries the same grooved carving across its furniture and mirrors.
