Description
A round coffee table, 75cm across and 45cm high, carved from mango wood and finished in charcoal. The top is grooved all over, cut in fine parallel lines that follow the grain across the face, with a heavier roped band worked round the edge. It sits on a single carved pedestal, narrow where it meets the underside of the top and swelling out to a broad flat base, grooved the same way but vertically. The charcoal is taken back at the ridges, so brown comes through where the tool has been.
At 45cm it stands a little below the seat height of most sofas. It is round, with no corners and a single central foot, so it works in the middle of a seating group with chairs on every side and nothing sticking out at floor level. At 75cm across it takes books, a tray and a pot at once. It goes on a rug between a sofa and an armchair.
The table is mango wood throughout. Each one is carved by hand with traditional tools, so the depth and the spacing of the grooves differ from table to table, and the charcoal is sanded back by hand afterwards, which brings the grain up through it. Mango wood is a by-product of the fruit industry in India. The same table is made in natural, and the Vivan range also holds a side table, a bedside table, a chest of drawers and a bed.

Frequently Asked
What size coffee table suits a sofa?
This one is 75cm across and 45cm high, which puts the top a little below the seat height of most sofas.
Does it stand on legs?
No. It has a single carved pedestal with a broad flat base.
What is it made of?
Mango wood, carved by hand. The charcoal is a finish on the wood rather than the colour of the timber.
Is it made in another colour?
Yes. The same table is made in natural.
How do I look after it?
Wipe it with a soft dry cloth to lift dust and moisture, working along the grain, and use mild soap and water sparingly rather than a lot of water. Use coasters and mats, deal with spills at once, and keep harsh chemicals and abrasive materials away from it. Strong direct sunlight fades the wood and extremes of heat and humidity can crack it.
