Description

A backless counter stool 70cm tall on an acacia wood frame, with a seat of jute cord. The four legs are square in section and splay out towards the floor, braced on each face by two flat stretchers set at different heights so they do not meet the legs at the same point. The jute is wound in tight parallel turns across the seat rails rather than woven in a basket pattern, and it dips slightly through the middle where it has been pulled down. The wood is pale and left bare, with the grain and the tool marks still showing and the tenon ends standing proud at the four corners of the seat.

The seat is the top of the stool, so the seat height and the overall height are the same figure: 70cm, which is counter height rather than bar height. The stool is 40cm square on the floor and the seat is 36cm front to back. At a counter it stands clear rather than pushed under, which is how a backless stool is usually left.

The frame is acacia wood and the seat is jute. Jute grows fast and takes very little water. The wood is left in its natural tone and will shift in colour over time. The Vinay range also runs to dining chairs and counter chairs, in natural and in chocolate brown.

Frequently Asked

How high is the seat?

70cm. The stool is backless, so the seat is the top of it and the seat height and the overall height are the same. That is counter height rather than bar height.

Does it have a back?

No. It is a backless stool.

What is the seat made from?

Jute cord, wound across an acacia wood frame.

Is there a matching chair?

Yes. The Vinay range runs to dining chairs and counter chairs as well.

How do I look after it?

Wash the wood in warm soapy water, then rinse and dry it straight away, and feed it now and then with an edible oil such as olive or walnut rubbed in with a dry cloth. Do not soak the jute: wipe it with a dry cloth and spot clean only where it needs it. The colour of the wood will change over time.
