Description

A set of three glass baubles cut to the shape of a gem, each 10cm across. Flat triangular facets rise from a sharp ridge around the middle up to the cap, and mirror it going down to a point at the base. The glass is finished as antiqued mercury, mottled through blue, steel grey and chalky white with darker speckling caught in the hollows. Each hangs from a narrow tan strap threaded through a metal ring in a fluted brass cap.

At 10cm these are large baubles, and three of them read as a feature rather than as filler. On a tree they need an outer branch with room around them, and one on its own will hang from a window catch, a mantel or a door handle.

The glass is recycled and every bauble is blown by hand into a mould, which is what gives the facets their edges. The mottled surface is built up in layers afterwards, so the pattern and the tone differ from one to the next and the three in a set do not match each other exactly. The Vikula range also runs a set of six at 8cm.

Frequently Asked

How many baubles are in the set?

Three.

How big are they?

10cm across.

Is the glass recycled?

Yes. The waste glass is washed, crushed and melted before it is blown by hand into a mould.

Will the three look the same?

Not exactly. The mottled surface is built up in layers by hand, so the pattern and the tone vary from bauble to bauble.

How do I look after them?

A dry, soft cloth will lift any dust that settles on them. Handle them carefully, and keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners away from the finish. They are for indoor use only.
