Description

The Varas is an 82cm linear bar pendant carrying 14 vertical tubes in alternating matt black and glossy gold finishes, each containing an integrated LED and opal acrylic diffuser. The tubes hang from a matt black rectangular canopy at varying lengths between 50cm and 140cm, creating a staggered rhythm across the suspension plane. The combined 70W LED output delivers 6,300 lumens at 3000K through the opal diffusers, producing even downlight and soft ambient wash.

Designed for dining tables, kitchen islands and long communal spaces, the Varas suits rooms with ceiling heights of 2.7m or above where the lowest tube can hang 700-900mm above the table surface. The 82cm x 25cm canopy footprint distributes light across a 2-2.5m table length without clustering. The pendant is fully dimmable when paired with a compatible LED dimmer (dimmer not included), allowing the light to be reduced from full task brightness to low ambient when needed.

The alternating black and gold tubes create visual contrast without pattern repetition — five tubes in glossy gold, nine in matt black. The glossy gold finish reflects warm tones and picks up ambient light from windows or adjacent fittings, while the matt black absorbs reflections and anchors the composition. The opal acrylic inside each tube conceals the LED strip and diffuses the light evenly along the length of each cylinder. At 11kg the pendant requires secure ceiling fixing into a joist or reinforced ceiling rose rated for the weight.

The Varas is manufactured by Schuller, a Spanish lighting producer known for metal-finished contemporary designs. The IP20 rating limits use to dry indoor locations — not suitable for bathrooms or outdoor covered areas.

Is the Varas dimmable?

Yes. The integrated LEDs are dimmable when paired with a compatible trailing-edge LED dimmer switch. The dimmer is not included and must be specified separately based on your existing electrical setup. Not all household dimmers support LED loads — contact us if unsure.

What table length does it suit?

The 82cm canopy width distributes light across a table approximately 2-2.5m long. For longer tables or islands, two Varas pendants can be installed in sequence, spaced 1.5-2m apart along the table length.

How high should it hang above the table?

The lowest tube typically hangs 700-900mm above the table surface, depending on ceiling height. This provides adequate task light without obstructing sightlines across the table. The cables are adjustable between 50cm and 140cm drop during installation.

Can it be installed on a sloped ceiling?

The Varas is designed for horizontal ceiling installation. Sloped or vaulted ceilings may cause the tubes to hang at an angle unless a ceiling canopy adaptor is used to level the mounting plate. Check with a qualified electrician before installing on non-horizontal surfaces.
