Description

The Varas is a 14-light LED bar pendant from Schuller featuring alternating white and gold cylindrical tubes suspended from an 82cm rectangular ceiling plate. Seven tubes are finished in matte white, seven in glossy gold, each housing an integrated LED behind an opal acrylic diffuser that softens the 70W combined output into warm 3000K ambient light. The rectangular plate measures 82cm x 25cm and is finished in matte white to match the ceiling canopy.

Designed for dining tables, kitchen islands and open-plan living spaces with ceiling heights of 2.6m or above, the Varas provides both task lighting and architectural presence. The suspension cables are adjustable from 50cm to 140cm drop, allowing the pendant to be set at the appropriate height above a worktop or table surface during installation. A remote control included with the fitting allows dimming from full brightness down to ambient levels without needing a mains dimmer switch fitted.

The alternating white and gold tubes create a visual rhythm across the 82cm span without the repetition of a single-colour array. Each tube is a sealed unit with the LED integrated behind the opal diffuser, so there are no bulbs to replace. The combined 11.2kg weight requires a secure ceiling fixing suitable for pendants over 10kg — check your ceiling rose or junction box rating before installation. The IP20 rating suits dry interior environments only.

The opal diffusers prevent glare when seated under the pendant and distribute light evenly across the underside of each tube. Is the Varas dimmable?

Yes. The pendant includes a remote control that dims the integrated LEDs from full brightness down to ambient levels. No mains dimmer switch is needed — the remote communicates directly with the control unit inside the ceiling canopy.

What ceiling height is needed?

The adjustable suspension cables allow a 50cm to 140cm drop. For a dining table or kitchen island the pendant typically sits 70-90cm above the surface, which works in rooms with ceiling heights of 2.6m or above. Lower ceilings can still accommodate the Varas if the cables are set to the 50cm minimum drop during installation.

Can the LEDs be replaced?

No. The LEDs are integrated into each tube behind the opal diffuser and are not user-replaceable. Schuller rates the LEDs for approximately 25,000 hours of use, which equates to around 10 years of typical domestic use at 6-8 hours per day.

What span does it cover above a dining table?

The 82cm width suits tables from 140cm to 200cm long. For larger tables over 2m, consider pairing two Varas pendants in sequence or choosing a longer bar pendant from the Schuller range.
