Description
The Varas is an 11-light LED bar pendant from Schuller's Spanish collection, built around eleven slender cylindrical tubes suspended at staggered heights from a 610mm matt black rectangular canopy. Each tube houses an integrated LED module behind an opal acrylic diffuser, with the tubes finished in alternating matt black and glossy gold. The integrated 55W LED array runs at 3000K warm white and is controlled via the included wireless remote, which provides dimming and on/off switching without requiring a wall dimmer.
Designed for dining tables, kitchen islands and double-height entrance halls, the Varas sits longest over rectangular surfaces between 1.8-2.4m in length. The canopy measures 610 x 250mm and the tubes cascade down from 400mm to 1400mm total drop when fully extended, with height adjustment on installation by shortening the cable runs inside each tube. The staggered arrangement creates visual rhythm rather than a flat plane of light, making the pendant read as a sculpture when viewed from an angle.
The black tubes are powder-coated steel with a low-sheen matt finish, while the gold tubes carry a high-gloss lacquer that catches and reflects ambient light in the room. The opal acrylic diffusers soften the LED sources to prevent glare when the pendant is viewed from below, important when installed over a dining position. At 8.2kg the fitting requires a secure ceiling fixing into joists or a reinforced plasterboard anchor rated to at least 15kg, and the Class 1 earthed construction means it must be wired through a standard ceiling rose with earth continuity.
The remote control operates on 2.4GHz wireless and does not require line-of-sight to the pendant, so it works from adjacent rooms or when the pendant is behind a beam. The dimming range runs from approximately 10% to 100% output, allowing the Varas to function as both task lighting over a worktop and low-level ambient lighting for evening dining. The 3000K colour temperature and CRI >80 rating render warm-toned interiors and food colours accurately without the cool cast of higher-temperature LEDs.

Frequently Asked
How does the remote control dimming work?
The Varas includes a wireless remote operating on 2.4GHz that controls both on/off switching and dimming from approximately 10% to 100% output. The remote does not require line-of-sight and works through walls, so it can be operated from adjacent rooms. No wall dimmer is needed — the dimming circuitry is built into the pendant canopy.
What table length does it suit?
The 610mm canopy width suits dining tables or kitchen islands between 1.8m and 2.4m in length. The staggered tube arrangement creates visual balance over rectangular surfaces rather than round tables, where a radial pendant would typically read better.
Can the drop height be adjusted?
Yes. The maximum drop is 1400mm from canopy to the lowest tube tip, but each tube's cable can be shortened during installation to reduce the overall drop. The minimum drop with all cables at their shortest is 500mm. For a dining table the pendant typically sits 700-800mm above the table surface.
What ceiling fixing is required?
At 8.2kg the Varas requires a ceiling fixing into solid joists or a plasterboard anchor rated to at least 15kg. The Class 1 earthed construction means it must be wired through a standard UK ceiling rose with earth continuity, and the installer should verify the ceiling structure can support the weight before fitting.
