Description
The Valin is a glazed display cabinet, 187cm high and 120cm wide. The frame, the doors, the base and the legs are stained a soft charcoal that the grain of the mango wood still shows through, while the back, the shelves and the drawer boxes inside are left in a pale honey tone, so the two read hard against each other whenever a door is opened. Each of the two doors carries a pair of tall glass panes in a slim frame whose inner corners are shaped into gentle curves. Inside stand three fixed shelves over four open bays, and beneath them two drawers sit side by side, each pulled by a small dark metal handle.
It takes 120cm of wall and 50cm of floor and reaches 187cm, which is the figure to check a ceiling or a picture rail against. Both doors are glazed the full height, so everything on the four shelves is on show and the cabinet is really for the things worth looking at, with the two drawers underneath taking what is not. At 98.2kg it is a two-person lift.
The cabinet is solid mango wood and glass, built and assembled by hand. The outer frame is stained charcoal to bring the grain up rather than to cover it, and the interior is left lighter so the wood can be seen. The curved wooden framing around each pane is shaped by hand, which is the part of the piece that takes the longest. The wood is sealed.

Frequently Asked
How big is it?
187cm high, 120cm wide and 50cm deep.
What is inside it?
Three fixed shelves, making four open bays, and two drawers side by side below them.
Is the inside the same colour as the outside?
No. The outer frame is stained charcoal and the interior is left in a pale honey tone.
How heavy is it?
98.2kg.
Will it stand in a bathroom?
Only in a room that is well ventilated and where the humidity is controlled, or the wood will swell.
How do I look after it?
Dust it with a soft dry cloth, working along the grain rather than across it. A little mild soap and water will clean it, but keep the water to a minimum. Stand anything wet on a coaster or a mat, deal with a spill the moment it happens, and keep the cabinet out of strong direct sunlight and away from extremes of heat and humidity, which crack and split wood.
