Usha Classic Wooden Floor Lamp Base - Natural

The Usha is a turned floor lamp base in the shape of a tall candlestick. A domed round foot steps up through a set of narrow turned rings into a slim column, which tapers very slightly as it rises and finishes in a second set of rings below the brass lampholder cup. The mango wood is left natural and pale, and the turning is crisp enough that the rings catch light as distinct lines rather than soft swellings. It stands 130cm on a foot 25.5cm across.

At 130cm this is the shortest of these floor lamp bases, which puts the lampholder near the top of a seated person rather than above it. That suits it to a spot beside a low chair or next to a sofa where the shade sits near eye level, and it is also why the 40W limit is lower than on the taller bases: the bulb ends up closer to a face. The foot is narrow at 25.5cm, so it slides against a skirting board or between a chair and a wall. The flex runs 3.5m and it is rated IP20, for dry indoor rooms.

The mango tree is grown for its fruit and felled only once it stops bearing, so the timber is a by-product rather than the reason for the planting.
