Description

The Type A is a 200W dimmer module designed to fit inside a light fitting rather than in a wall switch, allowing brightness control via a radio frequency remote control. The dimmer supports G9 LED bulbs and LED drivers operating on 110-220V mains, making it suitable for both UK and international installations where the fitting itself lacks built-in dimming.

The dimmer is installed between the mains supply and the LED driver or G9 bulb holder inside the light fitting during installation or retrofit. Once fitted, the dimmer receives RF signals from a compatible remote control (sold separately), allowing brightness adjustment without needing a wall-mounted dimmer switch. This configuration suits ceiling pendants, wall lights and chandeliers where running a dimmer circuit back to the wall switch would be impractical or where multiple fittings in a room need centralised dimming control.

The 60mm x 40mm x 20mm module weighs 60g and fits within the canopy or base of most medium to large decorative fittings. The 200W rating handles multiple G9 LED bulbs in a single fitting or one LED driver unit up to 200W output. Does this replace a wall dimmer switch?

No. The Type A dimmer fits inside the light fitting itself, between the mains supply and the LED driver or bulb. It is controlled via a separate RF remote control (sold separately), not a wall switch. The wall switch can remain as a standard on/off switch.

What remote control does it work with?

The dimmer operates via Schuller's radio frequency remote control, SKU 600502. One remote can control multiple Type A dimmers within RF range, allowing centralised dimming of several fittings in a room.

Can it dim standard mains-voltage G9 halogen bulbs?

The Type A is rated for G9 LED bulbs and LED drivers. Using it with halogen G9 bulbs may work but is not guaranteed by the manufacturer due to different load characteristics. For halogen dimming, confirm compatibility with Schuller before purchase.

Where is the dimmer installed?

The module fits inside the canopy, base or body of the light fitting, typically secured near the terminal block or driver compartment. Installation requires basic electrical competence and should be carried out by a qualified electrician if mains wiring modifications are needed.
