Description

The Knightsbridge T5235EM is a 1475mm twin-tube T5 emergency batten designed for 2x35W fluorescent lamps (sold separately). The fitting houses a 3-hour emergency battery pack configurable as maintained, non-maintained or switched-maintained, allowing the batten to operate as both normal task lighting and as emergency egress lighting during mains failure. A high-frequency soft-start ballast reduces lamp flicker on startup and extends tube life.

Designed for commercial offices, schools, corridors, retail back-of-house, warehouses and light industrial premises where emergency lighting is required by building regulations. The batten mounts to ceiling or wall using the pressed steel body, which presents a 1475mm x 63mm profile once installed. The white powder-coated finish integrates cleanly into plastered ceilings and painted walls without drawing attention as a separate fitting.

The pressed steel body provides rigidity across the 1.5m span and dissipates heat from the ballast and tubes. Polycarbonate end caps house the lampholders and protect the electrical connections. The IP20 rating confines installation to dry indoor zones away from direct water ingress — suitable for offices, retail and educational spaces but not for outdoor or bathroom use. The Class I earthing requires a protective earth connection during installation.

What's the difference between maintained, non-maintained and switched-maintained?

Maintained mode keeps the tubes lit at all times, switching to battery during mains failure. Non-maintained mode leaves the tubes off until mains fails, then powers them from battery. Switched-maintained allows the batten to operate as normal lighting via a wall switch, then automatically switches to battery during mains failure regardless of switch position. Configuration is set during installation.

Are the T5 tubes included?

No. The batten requires two T5 35W tubes, each 1449mm long (often sold as 5ft or 1450mm). Tubes are sold separately and widely available from electrical distributors.

How long does the emergency battery run for?

The integrated battery provides 3 hours of emergency lighting during mains failure when fully charged. Battery charging occurs automatically when mains power is present. The warranty excludes the battery, as batteries degrade with charge cycles over time.

Can this be used outdoors or in bathrooms?

No. The IP20 rating protects against solid objects larger than 12.5mm but provides no protection against water ingress. Installation must be in dry indoor zones only — not suitable for outdoor, bathroom or damp locations.
