Description

The Knightsbridge T8258EMHF is a twin 5ft T8 fluorescent emergency batten rated for 2x58W lamps, with a white powder-coated steel housing and integrated 3-hour emergency battery backup. The fitting accepts two T8 fluorescent tubes (sold separately) and operates in maintained, non-maintained or switched emergency modes depending on installation requirements. High-frequency control gear inside the housing improves lamp efficiency and reduces flicker compared to older magnetic ballasts.

Designed for commercial corridors, storage areas, educational buildings and public hallways where emergency lighting regulations require standby illumination, the batten measures 1527mm x 101mm x 86mm and fits standard ceiling grid systems or direct surface mounting. The IP20 rating suits dry indoor environments. The unit ships without lamps, allowing the installer to choose the preferred colour temperature and lamp brand at the point of installation.

The steel construction provides durability in higher-traffic public areas where plastic battens may crack or discolour over time. The white powder-coated finish hides minor scuffs and integrates cleanly into white or off-white ceiling planes. The fitting supports optional polycarbonate diffusers or reflectors to adjust light distribution, though these are sold separately. The emergency battery carries a separate warranty exclusion and should be tested quarterly as per BS 5266 standards.

No. The batten accepts two 5ft T8 fluorescent tubes up to 58W each, but these are sold separately. Most installations use 840 (cool white) or 830 (warm white) tubes depending on the application.

What emergency modes are supported?

The fitting can be wired for maintained (always on, switches to battery during mains failure), non-maintained (only on during mains failure), or switched (controlled by a switch but overrides to battery during mains failure). The wiring configuration determines the mode.

How long does the battery last during a power cut?

The integrated battery provides 3 hours of emergency light when fully charged. The battery should be tested quarterly and replaced according to the manufacturer's schedule, typically every 3-4 years depending on discharge cycles.

Can diffusers or reflectors be fitted?

Yes. The batten accepts optional polycarbonate diffusers or reflectors to adjust light distribution, but these are sold separately and not included with the base unit.
