Description

A handloom woven cushion cover, 60cm wide by 40cm high, worked in bands that run the full width. A ribbed grey band sits across the top, then a wide blush band stitched through with fine pale verticals, then a cream band carrying a row of raised chevrons in tan, every one of them pointing the same way. Below that the blush returns, and an ochre band takes the bottom third, dotted across with small cream dashes.

At 60 by 40cm this is a lumbar size rather than a square, so it sits in front of larger cushions rather than beside them. A pair props against the back cushions of a sofa at the small of the back. The bands run parallel to the long edge, so the pattern reads as a set of stripes when the cover stands that way up and as a column of them if it is turned on end.

The yarn is wool blended with a recycled polyester spun from repurposed plastic waste, and the cover is woven on a traditional Indian handloom. The chevrons are worked in a heavier yarn that stands proud of the ground weave, so the row can be felt as well as seen, and every band is woven in rather than printed. The same cover is made at 50 by 50cm.

Frequently Asked

What size is it?

60cm wide by 40cm high, a lumbar size rather than a square.

What is it made from?

Wool blended with a recycled polyester spun from repurposed plastic waste, woven on a traditional Indian handloom.

Does it come in another size?

Yes. The same cover is made at 50 by 50cm.

Is the pattern printed?

No. Every band is woven in, and the chevrons are worked in a heavier yarn that stands proud of the weave around them.

Can it be washed?

Many cushion covers of this kind are washable while some fabrics are spot clean only, so follow the label on the cover itself. Lift a spill with an absorbent tissue first, then blot the area with a sponge or a folded towel moistened in lukewarm water, and dry it with warm air from a hair dryer to avoid a water mark. Larger and more stubborn stains should go to a professional.
