Description

The Tubu is an articulated brass desk lamp on three joints. A stepped round base takes a short post, and two arm sections meet at an elbow, each joint closed by a winged screw that turns by hand. The shade is a brass bell with two rows of narrow slots punched around its shoulder, open at the mouth, and a rust braided flex loops from its top back down the arm. The brass is aged, with the patina darker in the hollows of the base and along the turnings.

Three joints mean the height and the reach are both set rather than fixed, and the lamp adjusts between 32cm and 48cm tall. The shade is metal and closed, so almost all the light goes forward out of the mouth, and the punched slots let a little escape at the shoulder and lay a row of small marks on the wall behind. That makes it a lamp for a desk or a shelf where the light is wanted on one thing rather than spread across a room. It takes one E14 bulb up to 40W. It is rated IP20, for dry indoor rooms.

The whole lamp is brass, base, arms, joints and shade, and the finish is aged rather than lacquered, so handling changes it over time. The slots are punched individually, so their spacing shifts a little from one shade to the next. At 3.25kg the base holds the arm out at full reach. The Tubu range also holds a wall mounted spotlight using the same slotted shade. Bulbs are not included.
