Description

The Tivi is a wide dome wound in fine jute cord. The cord runs vertically from the small opening at the top down to the rim, thousands of close parallel lines over a frame, and it is bound in horizontal bands at three points so the dome holds its curve. The lowest band sits above the rim and leaves the bottom few centimetres of cord looser and more open than the rest. It measures 50cm across and 26cm deep.

Fifty centimetres across and only 26cm deep gives a shallow shade that covers a wide area without hanging far, so it can sit over a table or a bed at a normal drop where a tall pendant would be in the way. The cord is close enough to hold most of the light in the upper dome and looser at the rim, so what you see from below is a bright band around the bottom edge and a darker crown above it. The bulb is visible through the open base. It is made for ceiling use only and weighs 1.14kg.

Jute is fast growing and biodegradable, and takes four to six months from planting to harvest. Each dome is wound by hand, so the density of the cord and the exact line of the binding bands differ from one to the next. No fitting, flex or bulb is included.
