This is a tall lidded storage basket in the shape of a sitting bear, woven from water hyacinth in a chunky braided pattern that gives the whole piece its soft, textured look. The lid carries two rounded ears, the front has a stitched face with closed, smiling eyes and a neat muzzle, and two paws sit at the base with their pads picked out in a darker stitch.
