Description

The Thorpe is a 28cm iron hurricane lantern with a smoky gold metallic finish and glass panels set into arched window openings on all four sides. The rectangular iron frame holds a pillar candle inside, with the glass protecting the flame while allowing light to pass through the arched apertures. The lantern sits on a flat iron base, making it stable on table surfaces, mantels and shelving.

Designed for dining table centrepieces, mantelpiece arrangements and console table styling, the Thorpe suits interiors where candlelight is used regularly for ambiance. The 28cm height works on coffee tables, side tables and grouped arrangements where multiple lanterns of different heights are stacked together. The glass insert lifts out for candle placement and cleaning, and the metal frame allows heat to dissipate safely during use.

The smoky gold finish sits between antique brass and brushed bronze, with a slightly textured surface that softens reflections and pairs comfortably with both warm-toned timber furniture and cooler grey or charcoal upholstery. The 18cm square footprint is compact enough for occasional tables and narrow console surfaces without overwhelming the space. What size candle does it hold?

The internal dimensions allow pillar candles up to approximately 15cm in diameter and 25cm in height. Standard pillar candles between 7-12cm diameter fit comfortably with clearance on all sides.

Can the glass be removed?

Yes. The glass panels lift out from the iron frame for candle placement and cleaning. This makes it easier to position and replace candles without tilting the lantern.

Is it suitable for outdoor use?

The iron construction is not weatherproof and will tarnish or rust if left exposed to rain. It can be used on covered outdoor tables or patios where it remains dry, but should be brought inside during wet weather.
