Description
A round side table carved from solid wood, 40cm high and 36cm across. The form is an hourglass: a flat round top, a deep drum below it cut with close vertical grooves, a narrow waist banded with a carved lattice of diamonds, and a second grooved drum flaring back out to meet the floor. The wood is left in its natural tone, with the splits, the tool marks and the changes of colour it carried.
At 40cm high it is a low table that stands beside a chair rather than in front of a sofa. The top is 36cm across and flat, so it takes a tray as readily as a cup. At 18.7kg it is heavy for its size, and the wide foot spreads that weight across a floorboard or a rug.
The table is neem wood and mango wood, carved by hand in a pattern drawn from traditional Indian woodwork. Because the carving is done by hand and the wood is solid, the depth of the grooves, the run of the grain and the splits that open across the end grain differ from one table to the next. It is sold singly.

Frequently Asked
What height is it?
40cm high, with a top 36cm across.
What is it made from?
Solid neem wood and mango wood, carved by hand.
Is the top flat?
Yes. The top is a flat round disc 36cm across.
Why are there splits in the wood?
It is carved from solid timber, and solid wood splits across the end grain as it takes up and gives off moisture. Extremes of heat and humidity make it worse, so keep it away from a radiator and out of strong direct sunlight.
How should it be looked after?
Wipe the surface regularly with a soft dry cloth. Mild soap and water can be used sparingly, always in the direction of the grain, and harsh chemicals and abrasive materials should be kept off it. Stand wet items on a coaster or a mat and mop up a spill at once.
