Description
The Tarnwold pendant is a small domed ceiling light, 195mm across, hung on a drop that adjusts from 450mm to 1525mm. The shade is metal with an antique brass patina finish, mottled rather than polished, and it directs the light straight down into a tight pool. One E27 lamp sits inside. At 2.0kg it is light enough to hang in a row of three or four without asking much of the ceiling, and the narrow diameter means each one takes up very little visual space in a room.
This is a working pendant more than a centrepiece. We would line up three over a kitchen island, hang one low beside a bed in place of a table lamp, or drop a single one over a hall table. The long drop range also lets it work in a stairwell, where it can fall well below the upper floor. Because the light goes downward, it is good over surfaces you want to see clearly, so worktops, a bar and a desk all suit it.
The dome is metal, finished in antique brass patina, hung from an adjustable suspension with a matching ceiling cup. One E27 LED bulb of around 10W lights it, and it is dimmable with a dimmable bulb and a compatible dimmer. Dust with a dry, soft cloth and keep polish and metal cleaner away, since both will lift the aged finish. It is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms, and it is a Class 1 fitting, so it needs an earthed supply. A matching Tarnwold wall light continues the same dome at wall height.

Frequently Asked
How wide is the shade?
195mm in diameter, which is deliberately small so several can hang together without crowding.
What is the drop?
Adjustable from 450mm to 1525mm, so it works over a worktop or down through a stairwell.
Which bulb does it need?
One E27 bulb. An LED of around 10W gives good downward light through the open bottom of the dome.
How many should I hang over an island?
Three suits most islands, spaced roughly 700mm apart with the shade about 750mm above the worktop.
How do I clean the patina?
Dust with a dry, soft cloth. Skip polish and metal cleaner, as both will strip the aged surface.
Is it dimmable?
Yes, with a dimmable bulb and a compatible dimmer switch fitted on the circuit.
