Description

The Tanu is a wreath built from two twisted wire rings set slightly out of true with each other, with finer strands looping below them, so the outline doubles and trebles instead of reading as one circle. Fine wire branches are bound on with wrapped wire and carry clusters of small pale mango wood beads, five or six to a twig. The beads gather along the right side and the foot and leave the upper rings bare, so the wreath is fuller at one end than the other.

At 72cm across and 45cm from top to bottom this is a wide, sprawling piece rather than a neat circle, and at 2cm deep it sits close against a door or a wall. The beaded sprigs run out past the rings. Indoor use only.

The rings and the branches are iron under an antique brass finish and the beads are mango wood, cut and threaded one at a time. The whole thing weighs 0.28kg. The same wreath is made with ruby beads, and the Tanu range also holds beaded baubles and candle holders.
