Description

The Tamil is a square cushion cover, 50cm on each side, handwoven from a blend of wool and cotton. The weave is simple and carries its own texture, and the colour sits in the yarn rather than on it. One narrow line crosses the natural ground, rust for part of its length and grey brown for the rest, a broader flecked band sits along the top edge and along the bottom, and a short grey brown bar stands just above the lower band, right of centre. It is supplied as a cover.

A 50cm square is the shape a sofa corner takes, and at that size it also works at the head of a bed or against the back of an armchair. The tones are quiet, so the cover goes behind a patterned one rather than beside it. Two will hold both corners of a sofa, and on a dining chair or a bench the square sits flat against the back.

The yarn is wool blended with cotton and the cover is woven on a traditional Indian handloom. The simple weave lets the softness of the fibres show. The Tamil also comes as a 60 x 40cm oblong in the same weave and the same tones.
