Description
A shallow glass box in a brass frame, 22cm wide, 15.5cm deep and 8.5cm high, divided inside into six compartments by glass dividers set into the base. The lower half is clear glass on all four sides. The lid is glass on top with a band of pierced brass running round its edge, punched through with a close grid of small holes, and a half round brass pull on the front.
Six compartments at this size hold rings, studs, cufflinks and a folded chain, one kind to each, and because the top is glass the contents are found by looking rather than by turning everything over. At 22cm by 15.5cm it takes a corner of a dressing table or a chest of drawers rather than the whole surface, and at 8.5cm high it will go into a drawer if it is not wanted on show.
The frame is brass and the panels are glass. The metal is soldered around the glass by hand with traditional tools, which leaves weld marks on the joins of every piece. The brass carries an aged antique finish rather than a bright one, so it reads closer to old gold than to new metal.

Frequently Asked
How many compartments are there?
Six, formed by glass dividers set into the base.
What size is it?
22cm wide, 15.5cm front to back and 8.5cm high.
Is the top glass?
Yes. The lid is glass, with a band of pierced brass running round its edge and a small brass pull on the front.
What are the marks on the joins?
Solder. The metal is worked around the glass by hand, and the weld marks it leaves are part of how the box is made rather than a flaw.
How do I look after it?
Wipe it over regularly with a soft, dry cloth, and use a microfibre cloth in a circular motion on the glass. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners away from it, as they will damage the finish.
