Talna Small Christmas Bell - Antique Brass

The Talna is a standing Christmas decoration cut and formed from iron: a plain tapering cone, 24.5cm to the tip of the star that sits on a short stem at the top. The cone stands on a round stepped foot 9cm across, so it is made to stand rather than to hang, and there is no loop or thread on it. The finish is an antique brass patina, a warm gold broken up by darker, almost charcoal mottling that gathers most heavily round the foot and in patches down one side of the cone.

At 24.5cm it is tall enough to read on its own on a mantelpiece, a hall table or a windowsill without a tree behind it, and the 9cm foot keeps it stable on a surface that gets knocked. Two or three of them at different heights make a run along a shelf. The shape is a simple silhouette rather than a detailed one, so it works against a plain wall where a fussier decoration would disappear, and the star at the top gives it a point to stand above a group of candles or a bowl of greenery.

The whole piece is iron, hand-cut and then given its antique brass finish. Because the patina is applied by hand, the balance of gold and dark differs on every one, and the marks fall in different places. The Talna bell is also made in a larger size.

Does it stand or hang?

It stands. The cone sits on a round foot, and there is no loop or thread for hanging it.

How big is it?

24.5cm tall to the tip of the star, on a foot 9cm across.

Is there a larger one?

Yes. The Talna bell is made in a larger size as well as this one.

Will every finish look the same?

Not exactly. The antique brass patina is applied by hand, so the gold and the darker mottling fall differently on every piece.

How do I look after it?

Wipe the dust off with a soft dry cloth and handle it carefully. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners away, which will damage the finish. Indoor use only.
