Description

An eight-pointed star 21cm across and 20cm tall, built from triangular panels of antiqued mirror glass set into a soldered metal frame finished in antique brass. Four long points run up, down and out to the sides, with four shorter ones between them, and every panel rises from a faceted boss at the centre, so the star stands 5cm deep rather than flat. The silvering is weathered rather than clear, so the glass reads closer to frost than to a mirror.

It hangs from a dark brown velvet tie rather than standing. Mirror glass returns what is in front of it, so a lamp set opposite one of these does more than a light placed behind it, and what shows in the panels is the room rather than the wall. At 21cm across and 0.35kg it wants a firm branch or a hook rather than a twig. The small and the large hang together, the small set below and to one side.

The panels are mercury glass, weathered to a frosted patina rather than left bright, and each is cut to fit the frame it sits in. The frame is shaped and soldered by hand, so the joins show along every rib. Taara also runs at 31cm across.
